Proportion

When two or more ratios are equal, they are said to be in proportion. The concept of ratio and proportion is based on fractions.

A proportion is written as a : b : : c : d

$\frac{a}{b} = \frac{c}{d}$

Compounded Ratio

(a : b), (c : d), (e : f ) is (ace : bdf)

If a : b :: c : d or a/b = c/d then

$\frac{a+b}{a-b} = \frac{c+d}{c-d}$

If some values (x) are divided by ratio a : b

Solution

Sum of the ratio = a+b = c

First part = x *(a/c)

Second part = x *(b/c)
