CENTRAL INFORMATION
COMMISSION (CIC)
- CIC is constituted by the Central Government through a gazette notification.
Present – CIC – Radha Krishna Mathur
Composition:
- One Chief Information Commissioner and not more than 10 Information Commissioners.
Appointment:
By [[President]] on the recommendation of a committee consisting of [[Minister]] as
- The Prime chairperson
- The [[Leader of Opposition]] in the [[Lok Sabha]]
- Union [[Cabinet Minister]] nominated by the [[Prime Minister]].
Term and Tenure:
- Five years or until they attain the age of 65 years whichever is earlier.
- They are not eligible for reappointment.
Removal:
- The Chief Information Commissioner or any information Commissioner shall be removed from his office only by order of the President, however in the case of proved misbehaviour or incapacity President has to refer the matter to the [[Supreme Court]] for an enquiry.
- If the Supreme Court after the inquiry, upholds the cause of removal and advises so, then the President remove him.
Salary:
- For Chief Information Commissioner it is similar to those of the [[Chief Election Commissioner]] and for the information Commissioner it is similar to those of an Election Commissioner.

Powers and functions of the Information Commissions:
It shall be the duty of the Central Information Commission or State Information Commission, as the case may be, to receive and inquire into a complaint from any person.
- Who has been unable to submit a request to a Public Information Officer by reason that no such officer has been appointed under this Act, or
- Who has been refused access to any information requested under this Act;
- Who has not been given a response to a request for information or access to information within the time limit specified under this Act.
STATE INFORMATION COMMISSION (SIC)
- Every State Government shall constitute a body to be known as the State Information Commission.
Composition:
- It is consists of a State Chief Information Commissioner and not more than ten State Information Commissioners.
Appointment:
By the Governor on the Recommendation of Committee consisting of
- The [[Chief Minister]] as Chairperson
- The Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly
- State Cabinet Minister nominated by the Chief Minister
Term and Tenure:
- Five years or until they attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
- They are not eligible for reappointment.

- The State Chief Information Commissioner or any State information Commissioner shall be removed from his office only by Governor, however in the case of proved misbehaviour or incapacity Governor has to refer the matter to the Supreme Court for an inquiry.
